I am experiencing crackling, popping and distortion issues, as well as constant game freezing, while playing Dark Age of Camelot. I have a sound blaster Live! in my system, how can I fix this?
Crashing & BSOD

Disable Live News Update: You need to open creatives Launcher, go to Live!Task, scroll to the right to a light bulb icon with a drop down menu. Uncheck "Monitor for Live!News Update". It will now no longer load with the Launcher.

Note: You can also keep it from running at startup by deleting the following key from the registry. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRunNewsUpd

  • Backup your registry first*

The Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! card looks for a program running in the background called devldr16.exe or devldr32.exe. If you have it there you can end task on it each time you start your system, or take it out of the windows startup

Crackling, Clicking, & Popping

Some motherboards have settings relating to "PCI latency timer", which you can try lowering to 0 (A utility to do this is available for VIA MVP3 motherboards which do not allow changing of this setting.)

If it crackles with hard disk access, try installing the latest UDMA drivers for your particular motherboard and/or check that you have enabled DMA for the hard drives, CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs and CD-RW drives

If it crackles with hard disk access, moving your hard drives to a ATA-66 or ATA-100 controller card from manufacturers like Abit and Promise may help

As a last resort, disable UDMA on your machine, which works on many users' machines with the VIA chipset for AMD processors VIA 4-in-1 drivers are reported to work for many cases (only for motherboards with VIA chipsets)

Many users with outdated video drivers solved their problems by updating their drivers

Try moving the SbLive from PCI slot 3 to slot 1.

Try muting the CD AUDIO in your sound control panel properties.
